Zimbabwe’s Gaming Regulator Highlights Responsible Gambling at ZITF 2025

A Call for Moderation and Responsible Play

Amid discussions of economic growth and industrialization at ZITF, Zimbabwe’s gaming authority shifted focus to the necessity of responsible betting practices. The Board clearly articulated that gambling should be purely recreational—not a desperate attempt to improve financial circumstances.

Dr Misheck Chingozha, the Interim Secretary of the Zimbabwe Lotteries and Gaming Board, highlighted the importance of moderation among players, stating clearly:

“The lotteries and gaming board requires all those that patronise us to ensure that they exercise restraint. Their passion should not override their reasoning to the extent that they shouldn’t know when to stop or walk away. All those that do it, should do it for fun. We encourage our punters to not go into any betting house with an amount they cannot afford to lose.”

Gaming’s Contribution to National Development

Aside from urging players towards sensible gambling, the Board highlighted the significant but often overlooked role gaming revenue plays in Zimbabwe’s economic and social spheres. Funds generated through regulated gambling activities contribute directly to crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, and social welfare.

However, Dr Chingozha cautioned against viewing gaming merely as a revenue source. He emphasized that the long-term sustainability of this revenue relies heavily on creating a balanced and responsible gaming environment.

At the trade fair, the Board conveyed that embedding responsible gambling practices into Zimbabwe’s gaming culture is not just about individual protection – it is fundamental to industry stability. Dr Chingozha reiterated that responsible gaming forms the foundation for maintaining both social health and economic benefits.
