Unclaimed R100 Million Lotto Jackpot Still Awaits Winner

19.08.2024

Two weeks after the R100 million Lotto jackpot was drawn on August 3, the winner has yet to come forward to claim the life-changing prize. National Lottery Ithuba is encouraging all participants to verify their tickets as the winning ticket was sold at Pick n’ Pay in Hazeldean Square, Pretoria.

One of South Africa’s Biggest Lotto Jackpots

This R100 million prize is the second-largest jackpot in the history of South Africa’s Lotto. Despite the significant amount, the winner seems to be unaware of their good fortune. Charmaine Mabuza, CEO of Ithuba, remarked that it is “highly possible” the winner has not realized they possess the winning ticket.

“We encourage all participants to check their tickets immediately to find out if they are the fortunate winner of this extraordinary jackpot,” Mabuza emphasized.

Deadline for Claiming the Prize

The winning ticket remains valid for 365 days from the date of the draw, after which it will expire if not claimed.

Should this happen, the unclaimed funds will be transferred to the National Lotteries Participants Trust Fund (NLPTF), where they will be held for safekeeping until the rightful winner comes forward.

Funds Redirected to Charitable Causes

In the event that no one claims the prize within the one-year period, the prize money will be redirected to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF).

These funds are then allocated to charitable organizations and other beneficiaries throughout the country.

Previous Record Jackpots

The largest Lotto jackpot ever recorded in South Africa occurred in 2018, when four winners shared a R110 million prize.

Notably, one of the winners was a 19-year-old first-time player who secured a portion of the massive payout.
