Peter Kesitilwe has been named the inaugural CEO of the African iGaming Alliance, a pan-African trade association formed this year. The former Botswana Gambling Authority CEO joins the continental trade body established by BetPawa, 888Africa, SportyBet and Betway. Additionally, his appointment marks a significant milestone for the organization’s leadership structure and industry representation across Africa.

Board Features Representatives from Founding Companies

Kesitilwe will lead a board comprising executives from each founding company. The leadership team includes Dan Thomson of BetPawa, Gregory Parsons of SportyBet, and Christopher Coyne of 888Africa. Furthermore, Anthony Prissman represents Betway across all African market boards. Betway entered Botswana’s regulated market in May 2025 with official support from Kesitilwe during his previous role.

The Botswana Gambling Authority issued 10 new bookmaker licenses in May, marking significant sector expansion. Prissman welcomed Kesitilwe’s appointment, noting that “Peter’s strong regulatory background and leadership experience bring immediate credibility to the AIA. We are excited to work with him to help shape a responsible industry across the continent.” The recruitment process highlighted Kesitilwe’s long-term vision for African iGaming development.

Alliance Focuses on Industry Standards and Regulatory Cooperation

The AIA positions itself as the voice of Africa’s online gaming industry. The organization emphasizes responsible gambling, fair competition, consumer protection and sustainable tax frameworks as core objectives. Moreover, these priorities align with regulatory requirements across multiple African jurisdictions. The alliance aims to work collaboratively with policymakers throughout the continent.

Kesitilwe stated his commitment to industry development, saying he looks forward to “working with regulators and policymakers to build a vibrant, sustainable & competitive industry that upholds the highest standards of responsible gambling and consumer protection.” The appointment establishes a leadership structure for coordinating industry initiatives across diverse African markets with varying regulatory frameworks.
