The North West Gambling Board conducted a compliance inspection in Delareyville resulting in six illegal gambling machine seizures and $87 fines issued to three establishments as part of provincial enforcement efforts targeting unlicensed gaming operations.

Multi-Agency Operation Targets Regulatory Violations

The inspection team visited liquor outlets, grocery stores, and restaurants to verify licensing compliance and consumer safety standards. Officers seized one machine from a local tavern and five machines from two restaurants during the operation. Three establishments received fines for various violations.

The enforcement action forms part of a broader provincial initiative that removed 196 illegal gaming machines during the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year. Simon Mogapi, NWGB’s Gambling Control Manager, stated that unlicensed machines drain community resources and expose people to unfair odds without oversight.

Board Addresses Public Awareness Gaps

Inspection teams visited Tic Tac Delareyville, a licensed venue, to engage patrons and community members about illegal betting risks. The outreach revealed many locals struggle to differentiate between legal and illegal gambling operators. Board officials shared information on licensed operator identification methods and encouraged public reporting of illegal gambling through phone, WhatsApp, and email channels.

The board has conducted similar enforcement and education operations in Potchefstroom, Ditsobola, Rustenburg, and Makapanstad in recent weeks. These coordinated efforts target both unlicensed machine removal and community education about regulated gaming operations across North West Province.
