The platform complements existing tools like the BetBlocker app, which helps players limit gambling activities and provides parental controls to prevent underage access. Industry representatives discussed the initiative’s market impact and player safeguarding capabilities during the launch event.

Regulatory Focus Shifts Beyond Revenue Generation

Fasan Oluyemisi, former Chief Administrative Officer of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, emphasized the initiative’s significance for Nigerian gambling regulation. She noted that “it goes beyond revenue generation” and “prioritizes people and their well-being in regulation.” The tool empowers individuals to manage gambling behavior while reducing addiction risks through informed decision-making.

Oluyemisi highlighted gambling addiction’s hidden nature, explaining that “many people battling gambling addiction often suffer quietly, as the signs are not always visible, unlike substance abuse.” SafePlay addresses this challenge by providing accessible tools without stigma or judgment.
