Google Bans All Gambling-Related Advertising in Nigeria
Google has enforced a new policy banning all forms of gambling and gambling-related advertising targeting Nigeria. This change reflects the consequences of a recent court decision and applies to both online gambling promotions and any auxiliary gambling content.

Total ban on online gambling ads
Google no longer permits advertisements for online gambling services aimed at users in Nigeria. This applies to all internet-based games where participants wager money or other valuables for a chance to win more. The decision removes any leeway for regulated or licensed gambling platforms to advertise within the Nigerian digital ad space through Google.
Restrictions include educational and promotional materials
The updated policy also prohibits advertising any gambling-related products. This includes promotional items like bonus codes or vouchers, educational content such as books and eBooks, and informational services offering tips, odds, or handicapping advice. The restrictions are comprehensive and apply regardless of whether the content is intended for recreational or informational purposes.
According to Google, the update to the Nigeria-specific section of its Gambling and games policy is the direct result of a recent court ruling. The company has not disclosed specific details of the legal case but noted that the change is effective immediately as of January 8.
