Ghana Lottery Foundation Distributes Millions to Support Communities Nationwide
Ghana’s National Lottery Authority has transformed lottery revenues into substantial community support through its charitable foundation, which has reached over two million citizens since its establishment. The NLA Good Causes Foundation operates with funding from lottery proceeds and corporate partnerships, directing resources toward health, education, youth development, and cultural preservation across all 16 regions.

Foundation Addresses Regional Emergencies and Infrastructure Needs
The foundation has responded to critical regional challenges with targeted financial support. Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam allocated GHS 100,000 to combat a meningitis outbreak in the Upper West Region. An equal amount was provided to Volta Region communities affected by coastal flooding and tidal waves.
Infrastructure development has been a primary focus, with the foundation constructing toilet facilities and drilling boreholes in underserved areas. The organization commissioned a three-unit classroom facility in Akanteng, including staff quarters, washrooms, and water supply systems. These projects address basic needs in communities with limited government resources.
Diverse Programs Target Education, Sports, and Healthcare
Educational initiatives have received substantial backing through scholarship programs and technology labs for remote schools. The foundation issued 92 assistance cheques in the first seven months of 2025. Sports development received GHS 60,000 for Real Tamale United’s premier league campaign and GHS 100,000 for disability skills training programs.
Healthcare interventions include medical equipment donations to hospitals and psychiatric facility upgrades. National Coordinator Kadiri Abdul Rauf Issifu oversees operations spanning infrastructure development, educational scholarships, and medical outreach programs. The foundation previously supported the government’s YouStart entrepreneurship program with GHS 20 million over two years.
