Licensing Strategy Targets Western Cape Jurisdiction

DigiPlus is preparing license applications with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, the preferred regulatory body for online gambling operations in South Africa. The company seeks three primary licenses: a National Manufacturer License, a Bookmaker License, and a Bookmaker Premises License. Additional employee licenses will support operational requirements.

The approval process involves comprehensive probity investigations of the company and its beneficial owners. Following regulatory review and platform testing, DigiPlus expects licensing decisions within six months of filing. The company is establishing a local legal entity to comply with South African regulations that permit foreign ownership and management.

Market Opportunity Drives Continental Expansion

South Africa’s online betting industry reached a valuation exceeding $28.6 billion in 2024, based on the current exchange rate of 17.88 rand per dollar. Annual growth rates of up to five percent continue driving market expansion. High mobile device usage and strong demand for live sports betting contribute to sector growth.

DigiPlus chairperson Eusebio Tanco described South Africa as both the continent’s largest online gaming market and a gateway to broader African expansion. The planned entry follows the company’s scheduled Brazil launch in September 2025. DigiPlus operates across Southeast Asia and is expanding into Latin America and Africa as part of its international growth strategy.
