Betway Botswana has committed approximately $290,000 to upgrade the Montshiwa grounds in Kanye, transforming the site into a community sports hub. Meanwhile, the project includes a new football pitch, athletics track, and solar-powered lighting for evening use.

Infrastructure Development Includes Multiple Facilities

The project encompasses ablution facilities, a guardhouse, and a storeroom for sports equipment including cones and hurdles. Therefore, local artists will decorate brick structures while tuck shops will generate funds for ongoing maintenance. Moreover, training in resource management will help ensure the grounds remain in good condition. Consequently, the comprehensive facility design addresses both athletic training needs and sustainable operations.

The betting operator has observed athletes training on rough surfaces with limited equipment across Botswana. Meanwhile, this initiative provides better resources for sports development in underserved communities. Additionally, the company plans to partner with the government to promote Botswana’s athletes on the global stage. Therefore, the facility aims to serve as a foundation for developing future Olympic competitors and cultural ambassadors.

Event Highlights National Athletic Achievement

The pledge event was attended by government officials, local dignitaries, sports officials, and athletes. Meanwhile, attendees included Collen Kebinatshipi, a 21-year-old who became the first male athlete from Botswana to win gold in the 400m race at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Therefore, the facility upgrade responds to demonstrated athletic potential within the community.

Construction is set to begin soon, with Betway Botswana planning to extend similar support to other areas across the country. Meanwhile, the project represents the company’s commitment to community development through sports infrastructure investment. Consequently, the initiative aims to transform local athletic aspiration into national achievement through improved training facilities and resource access.
