betPawa Seeks to Introduce Locker Room Bonus to Nigerian Sports Leagues
betPawa, a leading iGaming company under the pawaTech Group, is urging Nigerian sports federations, including football and basketball associations, to join forces in enhancing athlete welfare through its innovative Locker Room Bonus program. This call to action was made during a recent interview on the Sports Zone show on Lagos Talks FM, hosted by Charles Anazodo and Femi Farawe.

A Game-Changing Reward System
Representing betPawa’s CSR and sports development team, Raquel Puig and Nii Ashong-Katai Armah outlined the impact of the Locker Room Bonus—an initiative already implemented in multiple African nations. The program provides immediate financial rewards to athletes after a victory, with cash payouts sent directly to players’ mobile wallets before they even leave the stadium.
This system aims to professionalize local leagues by requiring teams to submit verified matchday squad lists. Players must confirm their identities through betPawa’s pawaPass security platform, while payouts are only processed based on official match results. In addition to rewarding players, the initiative extends benefits to technical staff and adapts to varying team sizes.
Proven Success Across Africa
The Locker Room Bonus has already seen significant traction in Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania. In Ghana’s Premier League alone, players received over 145 million naira (GH¢1.5 million) in bonuses during the 2023/2024 season. Similar success stories have emerged from Rwanda’s basketball leagues and Uganda’s football and futsal competitions, where immediate financial support has been praised by athletes.
betPawa has also expanded the initiative to women’s sports, ensuring equal payouts in Ghana’s Women’s FA Cup. The move has been widely recognized as a positive development in supporting female athletes.
Expanding the Initiative to Nigeria
During the Lagos Talks FM interview, betPawa’s representatives highlighted their ambition to introduce the Locker Room Bonus in Nigeria. They encouraged local sports federations to collaborate in implementing the program, which they believe could revolutionize athlete compensation in the country.
This planned expansion aligns with betPawa’s growing presence in Nigeria, following a major licensing agreement between its parent company, pawaTech Group, and Choplife Gaming. Under this four-year deal, Choplife Gaming—led by Nigerian entrepreneur and music executive Oluwatosin ‘Mr Eazi’ Ajibade—has secured the rights to operate betPawa in the Nigerian market.
