Uganda National Lottery Set to Boost Key Sectors with Significant Revenue

The Uganda National Lottery, operated by ITHUBA Uganda, has been praised by the Ugandan government as a positive and responsible initiative benefiting citizens across all social classes. The lottery’s official launch took place at Speke Resort Munyonyo, following the commencement of ticket sales on June 1, 2024.

Government Support and Economic Benefits

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and other key government officials have expressed optimism about the lottery’s potential to benefit all Ugandans. Nabbanja emphasized the collaborative efforts behind the project and highlighted the expected growth and integrity in lottery operations under ITHUBA Uganda.

The lottery is projected to generate significant revenue, with 30% allocated to the government to support crucial sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and sports.

Tax Revenues from Gaming to Fund Sports Infrastructure Development

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija revealed that the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) had already enabled the government to collect substantial taxes from gaming, with expectations of further growth due to the lottery.

Kasaija directed that proceeds from the financial year be used for developing sports infrastructure as Uganda prepares for AFCON 2027. The lottery is anticipated to be a key contributor to Uganda’s development goals.

Accessible and Affordable Lottery with Extensive Participation Channels

Chairman of ITHUBA Uganda, Bob Kabonero, stressed the importance of adhering to international best practices to ensure transparency and meaningful benefits for Uganda’s development.

The lottery is designed to be accessible and affordable, with numerous offices, agents, and online platforms facilitating participation. CEO of NLGRB, Denis Mudene Ngabirano, emphasized the commitment to responsible gaming and maintaining ethical standards to protect participants.

Transformative Potential of the Uganda National Lottery

The Uganda National Lottery offers a variety of popular games, including LOTTO, POWERBALL, DAILY LOTTO, SPIN 4 CASH, and SPORTSTAKE 10, with jackpots exceeding UGX 2.8 billion.

With an initial investment of $14 million, ITHUBA Uganda aims to not only change individual lives but also significantly boost national revenue and drive economic growth.
